INTERCONTINENTAL MALDIVES
As the seaplane banks around to land in the expansive lagoon, you catch your first glimpse of the iconic Maamunagau Lighthouse, perched on the powder white sand, surrounded by the turquoise Maldivian waters. The Maldivian drums greet you as you arrive on the island before being whisked away to your villa by your personal island curator.
There are 2 distinct sides of the island with a mix of single and double story lagoon villa’s on one side, and beach villa’s lining the stunning powder white beach on the other. With so many accommodation options, there really is something to suit everyone, couples, families and larger/multi-generation groups. For couples (and parents) looking for some adults only time, check out The Retreat. An adults only oasis where you can lounge around child free to tropical poolside beats.
An added highlight when staying at the InterContinental is the Club Continental benefits. Complimentary afternoon tea and aperitif hour from 5-7pm each day… yes please!
For a unique dining experience, dinner at The Lighthouse is a must. With limited spaces, it’s in hot demand so be sure to have your Island Curator book ahead for you.
InterContinental is on ‘Island Time’ which gives you an extra hour of daylight to enjoy the sunshine before finding a perfect spot for sundowners. Saber your own bottle of Moet at the Sunset Bar with a front row seat to watch as the blue sky fades to shades of orange and pink!
INSIDE INFO
Sitting at the southern end of the Raa Atoll, the resort’s location is within close proximity to Hanifaru Bay, one of the best locations in the Maldives for the bucket list experience of swimming with the manta rays. The even better news is that if you happen to be outside of the famous manta season, the resort’s very own (not to mention much less crowded!) lagoon is visited by a number of mantas each year, between December and April, with studies showing that it could in fact be a nursery for young/juvenile rays. With the Manta Trust team located at the resort, it’s a great opportunity to learn a little more about these beautiful gentle giants of the ocean before heading out for the experience of a lifetime! If you are lucky enough to spot one that hasn’t been identified, you even get naming rights!
